Free to the public! Bring a chair and join us for the sounds of traditional Christmas songs, including many from the community's German tradition. The festive "Der Singende Weihnachtsbaum" (Singing Christmas Tree) program will ring out again this year during two performances on the grounds of the Pioneer Museum. The performances are scheduled for 6:30 pm each evening.. Last year was the inaugural year for this event and drew a crowd of more than 700 for the two nights of performance. The 30-foot tall "singing Christmas tree" is a metal structure which is decorated with greenery, tinsel and lights on which singers gather and perform the hour-long musical program. Attendees are asked to bring their own chairs to enjoy the outdoor concert. Hope to see you there!
A FREE event! Bring your stocking and celebrate Kinderfest with us on Saturday, December 9th from 9:30 - 11:30 am in the Pioneer Museum Social Hall and Sanctuary located at 312 W San Antonio St. Kinderfest is a wonderful tradition that has been going on in Fredericksburg for over 40 years! Children 10 and under are invited to bring a stocking to hang on our fireplace. (The museum will happily provide stockings for any children who need one.) Then, the kids will head into the historic Sanctuary to enjoy a Christmas story, fun and interactive songs, and a special Christmas craft. We might even get a glimpse of St. Nick himself! While the children are away, St. Nick and his elves will be working to fill the stockings according to German tradition... with nuts & fruit and candy for good children, and a switch or lump of coal for naughty children. Thankfully, all the children who attend Kinderfest are always known to be good, so the elves won't be needing any switches or coal! Light refreshments will be served as children come to collect their stockings after the celebration. Kinderfest is a free event. All children must be accompanied by an adult.

This #ThrowbackThursdayPM features the Heinrich Bierschwale house which was built in 1872. This historic home is included in this year's 60th Christmas Home Tour. According to records kept by Mr. Bierschwale in a small leather-bound ledger, building expenses included: "One gal. of whiskey, $2. Digging foundation, $4.50." At that time, whiskey was often the compensation for services performed. #PioneerMuseumFBG
